Legislative session calendar pushed back to give lawmakers more time for budget work

Legislative leaders have agreed to push back the final day of the General Assembly’s 2016 session until Friday, April 15, so that lawmakers can continue working toward passage of the state’s next two-year budget.

The session was previously scheduled to end tomorrow.

Instead, lawmakers serving on a free conference committee will meet tomorrow at 1 p.m. The goal is to finalize a budget agreement that lawmakers can vote on when the Senate and House convene at noon on Friday.

Friday is the last day that lawmakers could meet in session for the final day of the 2016 Regular Session due to a state constitutional deadline. Lawmakers have already met for 59 of the 60 days allowed by the constitution for this year’s regular session.
