Four Kentucky teens get Youth for Understanding scholarships to study abroad in Japan this summer


Four Kentucky teenagers, have been named as 2016 recipients of scholarships, which will allow them to study abroad. Administered by Youth For Understanding USA (YFU) these prestigious scholarships provide selected high school students with the opportunity to spend the summer studying abroad and exploring local culture in Japan.

These young leaders were selected from both local and national pools of applicants for these highly competitive scholarships:
 
• Jackie Foster (Grant County High School) recipient of the Kikkoman/Family Careers and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) scholarship
• Hannah Herrmann (Lloyd Memorial High School) recipient of the Japan-U.S. Senate Youth Exchange (JUSSE) scholarship
• Kara Schuler (Bishop Brossart High School) recipient of the Toyota-TEMA Community scholarship
• Justin Geilear (Woodford County High School) recipient of the Toyota-TEMA Employee scholarship

YFU is an educational nonprofit that advances intercultural understanding, mutual respect, and social responsibility through exchanges for youth, families, and communities. Along with the Kikkoman/FCCLA, JUSSE and Toyota-TEMA scholarships, YFU USA administers hundreds of additional government and corporate funded scholarships for high schools students. The students selected for these programs represent some of the most talented youth in the United States.
