Wet weather to delay Campbell County bridge restoration project that was slated to begin today


The KYTC District 6 office has announced that a Campbell County bridge restoration project on the KY 1120 (Memorial Parkway) that crosses over I-471 is re-scheduled to begin Monday, May 16 due to the recent rains. The repairs were originally scheduled to begin today. The project calls for the bridge to be closed to traffic and pedestrians for a 60 day period starting June 20.

The start date for another Campbell County bridge project, on KY 2921 (Washington Trace Road), will begin as scheduled on May 16.

KYTCKY 120 (Memorial Parkway)

A bridge restoration project on the KY 1120 (Memorial Parkway) that crosses over I-471 is scheduled to begin Wednesday, May 11. The project calls for the bridge to be closed to traffic and pedestrians for a 60 day period between late May and August.

“This is a routine maintenance project, but will have significant impacts to traffic using the Memorial Parkway.” said Rob Hans, chief district engineer for Department of Highways District 6, in Covington. “A new concrete bridge deck overlay will be placed on the bridge and, for pedestrian safety, a sidewalk will be installed.”

Prus Construction Company, of Cincinnati, OH was awarded the contract on a low-bid of $1.3 million.

Beginning next week, motorists and pedestrians will encounter lane closures that will eventually lead to a two-month total closure of KY 1120 between the Interstate 471 south ramps (Exit 4) and I-471 north ramps (Exit 4). Additionally, there will be a 14 day closures of the I-471 NB entrance and exit ramps.

Message boards will be used to inform motorists of upcoming ramp closures. Motorists should plan accordingly by allowing extra travel time or finding an alternate route. The lane restrictions will remain in effect until work is complete, which is expected to be mid-August 2016.

KY 2921 (Washington Trace Road)

Crews will close KY 2921 (Washington Trace Road) to begin construction of a new bridge over a Twelve Mile Creek tributary starting May 16.

Rob Hans, chief district engineer for KYTC District 6 said, “The new bridge and approaches will be constructed to current standards that will provide better mobility for the motorists who travel this roadway.”
The new bridge will be 53 feet long with two 9 foot lanes and 2 foot shoulders.

Motorists are encourage to use KY 1566 (Oneonta Road) to KY 8.

John R. Jurgensen Co. and Subsidiary of Cincinnati, Ohio was awarded the low bid contract for $586,655. Crews anticipate completion by mid-August of this year.
