Blaze on Industrial Road in Florence consumes thousands of pallets, minimal damage to building

The Florence Fire Department has released its preliminary report regarding Tuesday’s four-alarm fire at A One Pallet on Industrial Road.

Flames from the blaze, which was estimated to have destroyed between 15,000 and 20,000 pallets, could be seen for a great distance. The fire started outside and spread to a building on the property, but was contained, with minimal damage to the structure.

One firefighter was transported to a local hospital, but has since been released. The cause of the fire has not been determined and there is no estimate of loss at this time.

Florence firefighters were dispatched to the 7400 block of Industrial Rd. at approximately 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7 for a report of a one-alarm fire at a pallet manufacturing company.

Arriving companies found multiple, large stacks of wooden pallets on fire in a bulk storage area behind the building.  The fire quickly spread to an estimated 15-20,000 pallets as well as the building.  A coordinated effort by on-scene personnel was able to minimize fire damage to the structure.   

Due to the scope of the emergency, a total of four alarms were called to the scene to contain the fire. Extensive overhaul operations are still ongoing at the date of this release. One firefighter was transported from the scene to a local hospital for evaluation and has since been released.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and there is no preliminary dollar loss at this time.
