Jake Ziegelmeyer, the top pitcher and one of the leading hitters on the Ryle baseball team this season, was named 9th Region Player of the Year on the all-star teams selected by local coaches.
During the regular season, Ziegelmeyer had a 5-1 pitching record and 1.13 earned run average. The Morehead State University recruit was also a .300 hitter for the Raiders.
The baseball coaches selected all-star teams in two classes. Beechwood senior shortstop Kyle Rowe was named Player of the Year in Class A and Ziegelmeyer was the top vote-getter in Class AA. Coach of the Year awards went to Kent Shartzer of St. Henry in Class A and Brad Arlinghaus of Conner in Class AA.
Pat Roesel of Ryle was voted 9th Region Coach of the Year. His team did not lose to a Northern Kentucky opponent during the regular season and finished with a 29-7 record.
The top players in the three divisions of the Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference were Ziegelmeyer in Division I, Brayden Combs of Beechwood in Division II and Briley Seiter of Bellevue in Division III.
Three members of the Campbell County team that won the 10th Region championship — Alex Franzen, Colton Hartig and Cory Franzen — are on the Division I all-star team. The Division II all-star team includes Ricky Raisor and Ethan Doty, two starting pitchers on the Highlands team that won the 9th Region tournament.
Campbell County and Highlands are among the 16 regional champions that will compete in the state tournament that begins Thursday at Whitaker Bank Ball Park in Lexington.
