St. Elizabeth Healthcare, the Mayo Clinic, Commonwealth Orthopaedic Centers, and the NFL Alumni will present a free seminar on concussions from 6 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15, at Receptions in Erlanger.

According to the American Medical Society, an estimated 3.8 million concussions occur in the U.S. every year during competitive sports and recreational activities. However, as many as 50 percent of the concussions may go unreported.
At this educational session, participants will learn more about the signs, symptoms, and advancements in concussion prevention and treatment.
The program features a panel discussion followed by an audience question and answer session. Participating panelists include:
*Matthew DesJardins, MD, Commonwealth Orthopaedic Centers
*Jonathan Finnoff, DO, Mayo Clinic
*Michael Miller, MD, St. Elizabeth Sports Medicine
*Mike Wright, former defensive end and NFL Alumni
“In the majority of concussion cases, there is no loss of consciousness,” said Dr. Miller. “Fortunately, the majority of athletes simply need to rest physically and cognitively until all symptoms clear, and then we wean then back to play in a graduated step-wise fashion. For those student athletes that initially struggle in the classroom, we recommend academic accommodations.”
Free and convenient parking is available at Receptions, which is located at 1379 Donaldson Highway.
Space is limited and reservations are required. To register, click here .
The forum is open to coaches, players, parents, teachers, school officials or anyone interested in learning more about concussion.
