More than 1,700 of America’s best and brightest college students traveled to the Peach State to CONNECT with top future business leaders and showcase their talents as they vied for the opportunity to win more than $92,000 in cash awards.
The Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) National Leadership Conference was held June 24–27 in Atlanta. Participants from across the United States attended this exciting conference to enhance their business skills, expand their networks, and participate in 60 business and business-related competitive events.
Edward Villaverde from Beckfield College in Florence received national recognition at the PBL Awards of Excellence Program on June 27. Villaverde competed in Retail Management and brought home third place.
“I had a blast reconnecting with old friends and networking to make new friends. It saddens me to say, I only have one more year of competing.” Said Villaverde, who is chapter president.
The competition consisted of a 60-minute test that covered 12 competencies including included retail management functions, customer values and services, retailing technologies, selecting the appropriate market and location, pricing and human resource management.
The award was part of a comprehensive national competitive events program sponsored by FBLA-PBL that recognizes and rewards excellence in a broad range of business and career-related areas. For many students, the competitive events are the capstone activity of their academic careers.
Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda, Inc., the premier student business organization, is a nonprofit education association with a quarter million members and advisers in over 6,500 active middle school, high school, and college chapters worldwide. Its mission is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs.
In addition to competitions, students immersed themselves in interactive workshops, visited an information-packed exhibit hall, and heard from motivational keynotes on a broad range of business topics.
Beckfield College is a degree granting institution of higher learning dedicated to preparing learners for relevant professional, technical, and business careers in a diverse, ethical, student-centered environment. Academics are offered at campuses in Florence, Tri-County-Cincinnati, and online.
Beckfield College
