Brad Forman of Cold Spring is one of 10 Team Leaders and 75 total men and women pledging to perform 11 months of national service as part of the Atlantic Region’s FEMA Corps Class 23.

FEMA Corps is a track of the National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC), an AmeriCorps program.
AmeriCorps NCCC and FEMA Corps are programs of the federal agency, Corporation for National and Community Service.
It engages more than five million Americans in service through its AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, Social Innovation Fund, and Volunteer Generation Fund programs, and leads the President’s national call to service initiative, United We Serve. For more information, visit NationalService.gov
As a Team Leader, Forman will spend 11 months getting things done for America while strengthening communities and developing his leadership. Forman and his team will work on a variety of projects focusing on disaster response and recovery efforts. He may work with FEMA regional and joint field offices, as well as the Red Cross and other emergency management organizations.
“I heard about AmeriCorps NCCC through a Volunteer Coordinator at a nonprofit agency. She manages several AmeriCorps VISTA members and told me about the AmeriCorps program and got me really interested,” said Forman, who previously served in NCCC as a Corps Member.
After his 11-month tenure, Forman will graduate from FEMA Corps in May 2017 with an education award of $5,775, which can be used to continue education or pay back student loans.
When asked about what motivated him to serve, Forman said, “I live my life by the saying from Gandhi, ‘Be the change you wish to see in the world.’ I see that there are problems in the world and people in need and I want to be able to help them. Although I may not make a huge impact, I want to at least be able to make someone’s day better and hope that they pay it forward.”
