Airborne drone video shows progress on Taylor Creek overlook park project in Newport, Bellevue

Videos shot by airborne drones are offering a unique perspective of the progress of the Taylor Creek Overlook park project being developed where Newport and Bellevue meet along the Ohio River.

The $3.8 million project – being built by Sunesis Construction Company of West Chester, Ohio –  will stabilize an area between The Chart House and Joe’s Crab Shack that has undergone substantial deterioration, and result in a new riverfront park that can host visitors, runners, walkers, concerts, weddings and public gatherings.

“Severe erosion around the outlet of the Taylor Creek Culvert required modifications to the culvert’s discharge location,” said Southbank Partners President Jack Moreland. “When this project is complete, it will stabilize and improve the river bank area and will become a very nice green area for residents and visitors to enjoy.”

Southbank Partners – the economic and community development organization for Northern Kentucky’s river cities – has assisted in coordinating the project along with The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and Rob Hans, Chief District Engineer for Department of Highways District 6.

Other partners in the project include the cities of Newport and Bellevue; and Kentucky State Rep. Dennis Keene, D-Wilder, who represents Newport and Bellevue in the Kentucky General Assembly.

Duke Energy also provided funding for the project.

“This is just another part of cleaning up the river bank to allow the river cities to capitalize on one of their biggest assets – the Ohio River,” Moreland said.

The project is expected to be completed prior to Labor Day weekend.

  1. Wow love those airborne drones. I also glad that it is going to clean up the river bank. We live minutes from there and will enjoy another place to go on weekends.
