Aquino steps down after 45 years with United Way

Carol Aquino retired July 31 as vice president of marketing at United Way of Greater Cincinnati (UWGC) after 45 years with United Way, the last 36 in Cincinnati.

Aquino, whodirected UWGC’s communications and marketing efforts since 1987, and became vice president in 1996, said, “It has truly been a pleasure and honor to work with so many dedicated individuals – staff, volunteers, donors, agency partners – over the years. While faces and names have sometimes changed, there’s one constant running through all – a commitment to our community – that has made working at United Way so rewarding. I look forward to new endeavors and continuing relationships.”

Aquino joined UWGC in 1980 as associate campaign manager, with promotions to senior associate director, campaign and communications, and communications director. She served as staff director, strategic planning, in the mid-90s.

She was lead staff for UWGC’s centennial celebration in 2015 and the 2011 grand opening of the Fifth Third Convening Center at United Way. Under her leadership, UWGC has won numerous local and national marketing and communications awards, most recently a national Telly Award for the 2015 campaign videos.

Teresa Hoelle has been named vice president of marketing. She will fill a strategic role for UWGC as a member of the executive leadership team and will lead the communications and marketing strategy for the 6th largest United Way in the U.S.

The appointment is effective August 22 and follows an extensive national search involving more than 120 applicants and several rounds of interviews.

Hoelle most recently was vice president of institutional advancement for ArtWorks, which provides employment and training for local teens, artists, and entrepreneurs, overseeing its fundraising and communications strategies to help the organization double its budget from $1.5 to $3.3 million within three years.

Erlanger Police Sgt. Rice honored by KOHS

Erlanger Sergeant Todd Rice has been recognized by the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety (KOHS).

Sergeant Rice was among 146 law enforcement officers from 125 agencies across the Commonwealth honored for their efforts to increase the use of seat belts and child restraints in motor vehicles.

The Governor’s Occupant Protection Awards ceremony was recently held in Lexington and awards were presented to officers with the most occupant protection citations in each agency and division.

According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, there were 761 total highway fatalities in Kentucky in 2015, with 588 killed in motor vehicles. Of those 588 fatalities, 300 (61 percent) were not wearing a seat belt. Seat belt usage rate is approximately 87 percent in this region of the state. The goal is 100 percent statewide.

The Erlanger Police Department was also awarded a Highway Traffic Safety Grant from KOHS.
