LEX 18 television station in Lexington is reporting that a Georgetown College student from Villa Hills has died after a fall at a fraternity house over the weekend.
The Fayette County coroner says that John Colson Machlitt, a sophomore defensive lineman, died at the UK Hospital at 2:38 p.m. Monday.
The Georgetown Police Department told LEX 18 that the accident is an active investigation.
Machlitt was at a Lambda Chi fraternity house over the weekend and was attempting to jump from a 3rd floor stairwell over the railing to a 2nd floor landing when he fell and hit his head.
Georgetown coach Bill Cronin told LEX that he as a “great young man.”
Machlitt was visited by his coach and teammates in the hospital. Nearly 500 students attended a vigil for him Sunday night.
Machlitt was a graduate of Dixie Heights High School.
