House Task Force on Vulnerable Kentuckians to hold meeting at Gateway CTC Urban Metro Campus


Rep. Arnold Simpson, (D-Covington), today announced that the House Task Force on Vulnerable Kentuckians will hold its fourth meeting on Friday September 16, at 10 a.m.

The meeting will take place at the Gateway Community and Technical College, Urban Metro Campus, in the Center for Technology, Innovation & Enterprise, 516 Madison Avenue in Covington.

House Speaker Greg Stumbo established the Task Force on Vulnerable Kentuckians, made up of a bipartisan group of state representatives, to study issues and problems that affect Kentucky’s population in need of support.

Rep. Simpson represents the 65th Legislative District, which makes up part of the Fourth Congressional District where the September 16th meeting will be held. The focus of this meeting will be mental health, Kentucky’s Community Mental Health Centers and substance abuse.

“I am honored that this important initiative is coming to Covington where my constituents and the public can hear firsthand of the toll substance abuse, especially heroin, is taking on our communities and our resources,” said Rep. Simpson.  “We will hear about measures being taken to combat the scourge of drugs, including treatment, as well as the challenges and successes of helping Kentuckians suffering from mental illness.”

The task force will meet throughout the 2016 interim legislative period and then report their findings and legislative recommendations in December for consideration in the 2017 session. The monthly meetings are scheduled in each of Kentucky’s six Congressional districts.

Take I-71/75 North to Exit 192, 5th Street/Covington/Newport.  Merge onto West 5th Street.  The parking garage entrance is on West 5th Street, before the corner of 5th and Scott Blvd. The front entrance to the building is reached with a right turn onto Scott Blvd.
