A Boone County Planning Commission Public Hearing scheduled for Wednesday to discuss a change in concept development has been postponed at the request of the applicant.

Boone County Planning Commission officials said Thornton’s Inc. did not provide a reason for the requested postponement for a parcel located at 7913-7915 US 42 in Florence.
Thornton’s had submitted plans for a Gasoline Filling Station, Eating and Drinking Establishment, on the eight-acre site, located at the corner of US 42 and Industrial Road. The vacant Quality Inn/Marriott hotel building at that location was recently demolished to make way for new development.
There is speculation that Thornton’s wants to build a truck stop on the site, but company officials did not respond to questions from the NKyTribune about specific plans for the property.
The primary land use for a gasoline/service station with convenience market is the fueling of motor vehicles.
Among the additional uses identified for the site is a truck stop. Facilities for the repairing and servicing of motor vehicles is identified as an ancillary use.

The only building identified for the property in the concept development plan application is a 5,633–foot structure, which would utilize a little more than one-tenth of an acre. The site would also include a number of fueling stations.
Thorntons currently operates a service station on Industrial Road, adjacent to the proposed development site.
Boone County Planning Commission officials were not sure when a new request for public hearing might be submitted.
