Traffic will shift over to the new pavement this weekend on Interstate 71/75 in Kenton County as work continues on the northbound pavement rehab project from 184.7 – 186.9 mile-marker.
Beginning at 10 p.m. September 16 (Friday night), traffic will be reduced to one lane northbound for the traffic switch. The lane restrictions will be in place continuously until the work is complete. Traffic will be restored to three northbound lanes by 6 a.m. September 19 (Monday morning).
Short-term intermittent ramp closures may be encountered during overnight hours on the ramps from I-275 EB and WB to I-75 NB and the exit and entrance ramps at Buttermilk Pike.
Drivers should exercise extreme caution and watch for traffic control devices, flaggers, construction personnel and equipment entering and leaving the work zone.
Long Delays can be expected. Drivers should consider alternate routes.
The Kentucky Transportation District 6 office has provided the following overview of construction activity in the area:
I-71/I-75 NB (184.7 – 186.9 mile-marker) – An interstate rehabilitation project is in progress on I-71/I-75 from the I-275 interchange to just south of US 25 (Exit 188). The northbound direction is open with two lanes and the contraflow lane (total of 3). The entrance ramp from KY 236 (Donaldson Road) is closed until approximately October 15th. Access to I-275 from Donaldson will remain open. The speed limit is 45 MPH in the northbound work zone. If motorists are involved in a fender bender situation, please proceed to a clear and safe area and contact local law enforcement.
Crews will be removing the old northbound pavement and replacing it with new concrete pavement. Additional delays can be expected throughout the remainder of the construction season. Drivers should exercise extreme caution and watch for traffic control devices, flaggers, construction personnel and equipment entering and leaving the work zone. The completion date for this project is November 2016.
I-275 EB (Exit 84) –The I-275 EB ramp to I-71/75 NB is restricted to a single lane. Delays can be expected when restrictions are in place. Drivers should exercise extreme caution and watch for traffic back-ups, traffic control devices, flaggers, construction personnel and equipment entering and leaving the work zone.
