Construction projects on I-71/75 expected to cause traffic disruptions in Northern Kentucky this weekend


The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 6 office reports that two separate road projects on Interstate 71/75, one in Boone County and another in Kenton County, are expected to cause traffic disruptions this weekend.

BOONE COUNTY

  • I-71 Bridge over I-75 interchange (76.7 milepost) – A bridge deck restoration and concrete overlay project is in progress on the I-71 Bridge over I-75 in Boone County. Traffic on the northbound bridge will be restricted to one lane until November 15th. Significant delays may occur when lane restrictions are in place. Motorists should watch for stopped traffic.  Motorists should plan accordingly and exercise caution and watch for traffic control devices, construction personnel, and equipment entering and leaving the work zone.  Beginning Friday, October 28th at 8 p.m. the I-75 North to I-71 South ramp will be CLOSED until Monday, October 31st at 5 a.m. Motorists should follow the signed detour to KY 338 (Richwood Road) interchange.

 

KENTON COUNTY

  • I-71/I-75 NB (184.7 – 186.9 mile-marker) – An interstate rehabilitation project is in progress on I-71/I-75 from the I-275 interchange to just south of US 25 (Exit 188).  The northbound direction is open with two lanes and the contraflow lane (total of 3).  The entrance ramp from KY 236 (Donaldson Road) to I-75 NB is closed until approximately October 31st.  Access to I-275 from Donaldson will remain open.  The speed limit is 45 MPH in the northbound work zone.  If motorists are involved in a fender bender situation, please proceed to a clear and safe area and contact local law enforcement. Crews will be removing the old northbound pavement and replacing it with new concrete pavement.  Additional delays can be expected throughout the remainder of the construction season. Drivers should exercise extreme caution and watch for traffic control devices, flaggers, construction personnel and equipment entering and leaving the work zone.   The completion date for this project is December 2016.  Work is weather dependent.

 

  • I-275 EB (Exit 84) –The I-275 EB ramp to I-71/75 NB is restricted to a single lane.  Delays can be expected when restrictions are in place. Drivers should exercise extreme caution and watch for traffic back-ups, traffic control devices, flaggers, construction personnel and equipment entering and leaving the work zone.  Work is weather dependent.

 

  • Beginning 10 p.m. on October 28th (Friday night), traffic will be reduced to one lane NB for a traffic switch.  The lane restrictions will be in place continuously until the work is complete.  Traffic will be restored to 3 NB lanes by 6 a.m. October 31st (Monday morning).  Once lanes are back in their original configuration, KY 236 (Donaldson Road) entrance ramp to I-75 NB will also re-open.  Short-term intermittent ramp closures may be encountered during overnight hours on the ramps from I-275 to I-75 NB and the exit and entrance ramps at Buttermilk Pike.  Drivers should exercise extreme caution and watch for traffic control devices, flaggers, construction personnel and equipment entering and leaving the work zone.  Long delays can be expected.  Drivers should consider alternate routes

  1. Hay your construction on 71 coming from off the 275 east bound to 71 north is causing cracked windshields from that smale peble concrete bits. The experience was like getting hit by a buckshot from a shotgun with the onramp crossong over the aper an that the bits are seeped off the main road surface. This was not a good to be pelted by sure up fragments from the construction site to have experienced and then contact my having to contact my insurance provider and schedule a visit with safe-lite glass. Thank goodness thay will visit my office and repair my windshield tomarow. Not a happy taxpayer.

  2. Unfortunately this is on a phone and speech-to-text didn’t do a good job of getting my point across. In short all the fragments coming off the road surface is doing a number on the paint and windshields of cars.
