The Emergency Shelter of Northern Kentucky annual Open House takes place on Wednesday (Oct. 26) from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Community members are invited to learn more about the ways in which ESNKY serves the Northern Kentucky community.
Donations of coffee, creamer, sugar, and paper products would be greatly appreciated, but are not required.
ESNKY, located at 634 Scott Street in Covington, opened in 2008. It is the area’s only handicap accessible shelter and accepts direct referrals from hospitals and jails.
While ESNKY is commonly referred to as the Cold Shelter, because it provides refuge for those in need from the area’s sometimes brutal winters, it is much more.
The Shelter’s Winter Program opens November through March and provide lifesaving support including shelter, food, clothing, laundry and more to an average of 83 guests per night.
The Summer Program is open from May through October and provides life-changing assistance by offering consistent shelter to support a person’s ability to obtain work, social services, financial stability and improvement of health.
Services include:
Dinner and breakfast
Shower and laundry
Clothing
Weekly nursing services
Referrals and information for social services
Goal setting, financial planning and housing assistance offered
ESNKY volunteers provide more than $190,000 in valuable support through in kind donations and service, allowing the Shelter to efficiently and effectively deploy its budget where it counts.
Visitors are encouraged to stop in at Wednesday’s Open House to take a look at the new layout and beds, purchased with a Sule Foundation Grant, or simply stop to say hello.
