Elections are the cornerstone of our Constitutional Republic.
On Tuesday Nov., 8, nearly 60,000 Boone County citizens made their voices heard by casting ballots at 62 different polling locations using 124 voting machines.
As your County Clerk, Kentucky law requires me and my staff of 35 Deputy Clerks to be the caretakers of our precious voting process in Boone County.
We dedicate thousands of hours of planning, preparation and training to ensure the election process is accurate and efficient.
Sheriff Mike Helmig, County Attorney Bob Neace, Judge-Executive Gary Moore and Jailer Ed Prindle show their commitment to this process as well by supporting my staff’s efforts with much needed manpower and resources.
But this process could not be successful without the nearly 300 poll workers that are the stewards of the election process.
On Election Day their day begins way before sunrise and doesn’t end until way after sunset, each with their own reason or story about why they serve and support. The next scheduled election is over a year away but the planning for it started when the last vote was counted last Tuesday night.
I encourage you to plan now to thank your poll workers when you cast a ballot next Election Day.
I enjoyed the challenge and being able to serve in some capacity….I’ve lived in Boone co for over 50 years now and have seen a lot of changes as well as faces come and go…my elementary school is now airport property, the house I grew up in is the emergency lane of 275 near the airport exit and my first job at flicks is now a vacant lot….thanks to Kenny brown and the staff for their help during the voting process….
