Editor,
After my brother’s murder in 2000, I had to quickly learn to navigate our criminal justice system. Recently, I was almost denied entrance to an upcoming parole hearing concerning his case.
Fortunately, an advocacy group helped me exercise my statutory rights to be present. But not every victim is so lucky.
What if Kentucky had protections in place to guarantee victims’ rights?
I encourage our lawmakers to pass Marsy’s Law for Kentucky next session. Marsy’s Law would establish constitutional-level rights for victims including the right to have a voice in the process.
