‘Mr. Oktober,’ Mick Noll dies at home at age 74; was popular figure at German celebrations


Mick Noll, a popular restaurateur and force behind MainStrasse’s Oktoberfest in Covington, has died at his home. He was 74.

Friends say he had suffered from cancer.

Noll was known as “Mr. Oktober.” A cook, caterer, strudel shop owner and more, he manned a grill at a nearly every Cincinnati and Covington Oktoberfest. It was a family tradition.

He spent his life in the restaurant business since working as a high schooler in a country club snack bar. Since the mid ’70s and after a stint in the Peace Corps, Noll ran his own places in Covington. First the Bavarian Tap Room, then a place in the old Bavarian Brewery and then Covington Haus which he opened in 1975 in the old Firehouse Number One, built in 1865, and purchased from the city.

His passions were German cuisine and Bavarian music.

He was a member of St. Anthony Parish in Taylor Mill.

Survivors include his wife Pat Teff Noll; sons Joseph Bernard Noll, John (Amy) Noll, and Ludwig (Cindy) Noll; sister Dottie Noll; brothers Bob (Phyllis) Noll; Tom (Carol) Noll, Jim (Joan) and 4 grandchildren: Ian, Otto, Ardon and Hazel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Joseph Church, 2470 Lorraine Court, Crescent Springs, on Tuesday, November 29 at 5 p.m.

A reception will immediately follow Mass in Robert B. Noll, Sr. Hall which is located in the Church Undercroft.

Burial will be in St. John Cemetery in Fort Mitchell, at the convenience of the family.

Memorials are suggested to St. Anthony Church, 485 Grand Avenue, Taylor Mill, KY 41015.
