Bruce Battaglia’s Thursday picks for Turfway Park


Turfway Park’s Bruce Battaglia provides daily picks and comments for the Tribune during the live racing meets.

Race 1 LADY CHANDLER was solid third beaten a length last out at Churchill she is dropping down and looks like a winner. LAND finished second just three days ago and is also dropping in class. ITSALLBOUTTHATBASE was third behind the second pick and should be close again

Race 2 SHIROTA has reeled off three in a row and four of his last six starts. He moves up in class showing the trainer is confident and he is the best bet. HAPPY TO BE HERE likes the synthetic and Mojica was hot last week. TIZNOW R J has speed and figures to be close.

Race 3 HIGHROLLER DAVE has been running well with classier and drops in class after two works here. WALL STREET loves the surface winning two with six seconds from his eight starts. SHIMMY TINJO runs consistently well at this level.

Race 4 BIG COULEE has been running with much better and looks like a winner in here. VINO SCURO was well beaten last out but has the speed to be on or near the lead with Pompell up.        NEIGHBORHOOD CAT is a contender.

turfway-parkRace 5 PALENTINE HILL has won three of four since changing barns and appears to be in a good spot to win another one tonight. NO TIME TO KID has a solid record on the poly and owns a win over the Turfway stip. PERFECTLY AT HOME was dull last out but is capable of much better.

Race 6 UTMOST INTENSITY drops back to the bottom and rates the slight edge in a well-matched field. SIR NICHOLAS broke his maiden over this track and is the one to beat. DETERMINED BRAEDON also takes the class drop and fits with these.

Race 7 FANTASTIC KITTEN and CHOPSTICKS form a tough entry for Ken and Sarah Ramsey. Either one is capable of winning tonight. OLD FASHION MILLER showed improvement in his second career start and drops in class. ROCCO SOLID went evenly in his debut and gets blinkers.

Race 8 ROB AND JON’S GIRL has been off since July but is training sharply and loves the Turfway poly. CARMENERE was claimed by Kim Hammond in September and ran third against better in Indiana. VANILLA SCORE owns a win over this track and has to be considered.

Race 9 HANSEN’S GIRL has improved with every start for Mike Maker and looks best in here. FACTFULL has been a beaten favorite in both of her races but Wesley Ward has to be respected. NAUTIA debuts for William VanMeter who has solid numbers with his first timers.
