Kentucky Senate President Robert Stivers will serve The Council of State Governments this year as the 2017 chair-elect.
The CSG Executive Committee confirmed his role on Sunday during the 2016 CSG National Conference in Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia.
Stivers, who will become CSG chair in 2018, is joined on the 2017 leadership team by Oregon Gov. Kate Brown, CSG national president; Nevada state Sen. Kelvin Atkinson, the national chair; Delaware state Rep. Helene Keeley, the vice chair; Nebraska state Sen. Beau McCoy, the immediate past chair; and each of the CSG regional chairs.

“It is truly an honor to serve as The Council of State Governments’ chair-elect for 2017,” Stivers said. “I am excited to begin working with the CSG leadership team to move the organization forward and continue to develop innovative ways to share policy ideas and good-governing practices across all branches of state government throughout our great nation.”
Stivers was elected Kentucky Senate president in 2013, and was re-elected to the position in 2014. He has served in the General Assembly since 1997. Governing magazine named Stivers the public official of the year in 2015 for his work in the legislature.
“CSG is excited about the opportunity to work with this exceptional leadership team throughout the coming year,” CSG Executive Director/CEO David Adkins said. “I am confident that their combined accomplishments and policy expertise will be an asset to us as we work to champion excellence in state governments.”
The Council of State Governments is the nation’s only organization serving all three branches of state government. CSG is a region-based forum that fosters the exchange of insights and ideas to help state officials shape public policy. This offers unparalleled regional, national and international opportunities to network, develop leaders, collaborate and create problem-solving partnerships.

Senator Stivers,
I understand that HB 227 is about to be voted on today. What a travesty this would be should this pass. I do not understand why there would not be more information given to the public about this hearing which is being done rather secretively. Why not an honest and open discussion so that both sides of this important issue can be discussed. I am saddened by the turn that our government is taking, being led by big business and wealth rather than by good sense and a sense of the need to walk with the little people of this state. I count on you to help to defeat this bill.
