People in News: Kenton Rotary speaker; Brent Cooper on cybersecurity, Thelen appoints Weaver


The Norfolk Southern Corporation’s Terminal Superintendent of the Cincinnati Terminal, Richard Lloyd, will be the guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Kenton County’s luncheon meeting on Thursday, January 26.

Mr. Lloyd began his career with the Norfolk Southern Corporation 20 years ago. As Terminal Superintendent, Mr. Lloyd is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of trains in and out of Cincinnati, Ohio. Norfolk Southern Corporation has over 40 trains that operate through this location with over 200 employees assigned to the terminal.

“The Rotary Club of Kenton County is thrilled to have Richard Lloyd as our guest speaker,” stated President Steve Gillespie. “Our club members are looking forward to hearing about the many facets of The Norfolk Southern Corporation.”

Brent Cooper at Covington Rotary January 31

Brent Cooper, President of C-Forward, will be doing a presentation on cyber security to the Covington Rotary on January 31st from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Radisson in Covington.

The presentation will include examples of cyberattacks, new technologies that will impact cyber security, as well as current best practices for protecting computer networks.

“We are trying to get in front of as many community organizations as possible to help spread the word about the scary state of cybercrime today,” said Cooper. “We view this as a vital community discussion that needs to take place on a regular basis.”

“The Covington Rotary is a perfect place to have this type of community discussion about what we can do to collectively better protect ourselves. The leaders involved with Rotary are top notch, and they share what they learn each week throughout the region.”

Thelen appoints Kevin Weaver manager

Thelen Associates, a Division of Geotechnology, Inc., a leading provider of geotechnical and environmental engineering, geophysics, water resource management, materials testing and drilling services, announced that Kevin Weaver has been promoted to Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Manager for its Cincinnati Branch.

This new position is a result of merging the Cincinnati CMT Group and Special Inspections Group.

Weaver is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati with an engineering degree. He began his career with Thelen/Geotechnology as a co-op student in 1995, and most recently served as Senior Project Manager. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in the states of Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, and also a Certified Welding Inspector.

“Kevin has been instrumental through the years in the development of policies and procedures in his area of responsibility, and is a recognized leader in the field of Special Inspections,” said Keith Pryse, Cincinnati Branch Manager. “His technical experience and managerial experience benefit both our clients and our staff. I look forward to seeing this new Group prosper under Kevin’s leadership.”
