High school basketball teams playing in All “A” Classic regional tournaments to get shot at state title

The All “A” Classic basketball playoffs shift into high gear this week with local teams involved in regional tournaments that will determine berths in the annual small school state tournament that’s scheduled for Jan. 25-29 at Frankfort Convention Center.

The 10th Region got off to an early start with boys’ and girls’ teams from the same schools playing double-headers last Friday and Saturday. The tournament resumes on Monday with Brossart vs. Calvary Christian in boys’ and girls’ games at Paris High School. The winners will advance to the semifinals on Wednesday.

The 9th Region girls’ tournament gets underway at 7 p.m. Monday with first-round games at three sites. Newport Central Catholic, a team that has won nine of the last 10 regional titles, will host Bellevue in one of those games. The other match-ups are Ludlow at Holy Cross and Newport at Lloyd.

The winners of those games will move on to the quarterfinals to be played Tuesday and Wednesday at the Bellevue High School gym. The tournament schedule has the semifinals on Friday and the championship game at 7 p.m. Saturday at Bellevue.

Walton-Verona is the only local school in the 8th Region. The Bearcats are hosting the boys’ tournament and play Trimble County at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Walton-Verona girls’ team drew a first-round bye and will play Williamstown or Carroll County in a semifinal game on Wednesday at Gallatin County High School.

The 9th Region boys’ tournament will start next Monday, Jan. 16 with first-round games at three sites. Here are the pairings for the each of the regional tournaments involving local teams:
