Simon Kenton made 10 of 16 3-point shots and defeated Oldham County, 66-41, in the opening game of the 8th Region girls’ basketball tournament on Monday at Oldham County.
Junior forward Shelby Harmeyer made seven treys and finished with a game-high 23 points for the Pioneers. The team’s other double-figure scorer was junior guard Bailee Harney with 11 points.
Simon Kenton shot 46.2 percent (24 of 52) from the field overall and held the home team to 29.3 percent (12 of 41). the Pioneers also had a 28-17 rebounding advantage.
The win moves Simon Kenton (25-6) into the regional semifinals to play Anderson County (25-7) at 6:30 p.m. Friday. The last time the two teams played each other was the 2015 regional championship game and Simon Kenton won.
Clark County knocked off Scott, 64-52, in the opening round of the 10th Region tournament on Monday at Harrison County High School. It was the third loss in the last four games for the Eagles (20-13), who started the month of February with a 56-51 win over Clark County.
