Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet announces two contests for students to celebrate Earth Day

The Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet has announced two contests to help protect the environment and to celebrate Earth Day.

Leslie Hale, a seventh grader at Warren County’s Drake’s Creek Middle School won the 2016 Earth Day photo contest with this picture of Cumberland Falls (provided photo).

For middle school students, the “Capture the Earth” photo contest seeks original photographs and for high school students, the “Capture the Earth” video contest seeks original videos. Both contests seek to celebrate the beauty and diversity of Kentucky.

Submissions should attempt to move viewers to care about the environment in Kentucky. The deadline for submissions for both contests is April 7, at 4:30 p.m.

The winner of each contest will receive one night’s lodging at any Kentucky State Resort Park with his or her family.

Middle school students can enter the photo contest by sending a photo as an attachment to kidsphotocontest@ky.gov. The photograph must be saved as a jpeg file. File sizes may not exceed 5MB.

The subject line of the email should read STUDENT EARTH DAY PHOTO CONTEST.

High school students can enter the video contest by uploading a video to YouTube, making it public and emailing the link to: Lanny.Brannock@ky.gov. The video must be saved as a YouTube link.

The subject line of the email should read STUDENT EARTH DAY VIDEO CONTEST.
