The Carnegie Gallery season continues with The Nothing That Is: A Drawing Show in Five Parts

The Carnegie’s 2016-17 Gallery Season continues with The Nothing That Is: A Drawing Show in Five Parts running through April 15.

The Nothing That Is will feature the work of more than 90 artists of both national and international stature alongside artists based in this region. The various sections of the exhibition will explore the practice of drawing from the very traditional to conceptual practices to community-based activity.

“An aspect of this exhibition that truly excites me is that it affords The Carnegie an opportunity to present the talented artists from this region alongside a group of talented artists from North Carolina, and stack them up with drawings by artists with major international acclaim,” said Carnegie Exhibitions Director Matt Distel. “The result is a better understanding and appreciation for the work being produced here in Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati.”

A previous iteration of this exhibition was presented at CAM-Raleigh, and this version has been modified to fit The Carnegie galleries and include selections from local artists and collections. The Ohio National Financial Services Gallery will house a massive presentation of drawings that demonstrate a wide array of approaches to drawing including DIY approaches with an emphasis on emerging artists, illustration, zines, and the economy. The upstairs galleries will feature a section titled Locals Only, which will showcase bodies of work from artists based in this area. Other sections will explore conceptual approaches to drawing, artists who employ movement through film and video, and artists who use drawing as a basis to foster community.

The exhibition is curated in collaboration with Bill Thelen, an artist, curator, and educator based in Raleigh, NC. His work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, and he operates the influential and ambitious Lump Gallery in Raleigh. Special Thank you to George and Linda Kurz, Michael Lowe and Kim Klosterman, Karen and Andy Stillpass, and Sara and Michelle Vance Waddell for lending works from their collections.
