The Boone County Fiscal Court Tuesday recognized the recently completed run through the Kentucky State Tournament by the Cooper High School Jaguars Boys’ Basketball Team.

The Jaguars made it to the state final game, before falling to Bowling Green 67-56 , in the March 19 title game at Rupp Arena.
The Jags had one of the lowest defensive averages in the state and finished the season 31-5, in just the ninth year of existence for the school.
Bowling Green (36-2) won its first state championship and finished the season with a 29-game winning streak.
Boone County Judge-executive Gary Moore said he had the opportunity to attend the regional title game, the semifinals and the final game.
“We were so proud of you for all of your efforts and accomplishments and we still are,” Moore said. “The favorite question I got as I was walking around the state tournament…is, ‘Where is Cooper High School,’ because I had on one of Jaguar shirts. I was very proud to say, ‘it’s in Boone County.’”
Moore read the following proclamation, declaring April 4, 2017, Cooper High School Jaguars Boys’ Basketball Team Day in Boone County:
Whereas, the Boone County Fiscal Court is a strong supporter of students and schools, recognizing the significance of outstanding academic and extracurricular performance and,
Whereas Cooper High School Boys’ Basketball Team has demonstrated the dedication of hard work, sportsmanship, talent, exceptional efforts of all those persons contributing to those efforts,

Whereas, congratulations are extended to the Cooper High School Jaguars Boys’ Basketball Team, finisher their season at an all-time best 31-5, being the most wins in school history. They are the 33rd District Champions, the Ninth Region Champions, they were Traditional Bank Holiday Classic Champions, Whitaker Bank Kentucky Sweet Sixteen State Tournament Finalists and they entered the High School Athetic Association Tournament for the first time in school history and finished as the State Runner-up,
Whereas, recognition goes out to Coach Tim Sullivan and his staff, school administrators, teachers, parents, and all supporting citizens of Cooper High School,
Whereas be it truly complained that we call on all of the Boone County community to join in the accomplishment of the Cooper High School Jaguars Boys’ Basketball Team,
Therefore I Gary W. Moore, Boone County Judge Executive do hereby proclaim April 4, 2017, as Cooper Jaguars Boyss ’Basketball Team Day in Boone County, and I call upon all parents, students and members of the community to join me in this very special day of recognition.
Moore and County Commissioners Charles Kenner, Cathy Flaig and Charlie Walton presented a framed copy of the proclamation to team members and the coaching staff at the beginning of the Fiscal Court meeting.
