Florence Freedom play home opener tonight vs. So. Illinois Miners; City of Union to host game on July 27

The Florence Freedom, presented by Titan Mechanical Solutions, will play their home opener against the Southern Illinois Miners tonight.

Coming off a three-game sweep of the Gateway Grizzlies on the road to open the season this past weekend, the Freedom look to continue their early success in the first game at UC Health Stadium of 2017.

The evening will feature an appearance by former Cincinnati Reds Chris Sabo, Glenn Braggs, Tom Browning and Herm Winningham, presented by Cornerstone Lillie Insurance and Hollywood Casino.

Fans can enjoy a one-hour story time and Q&A session with the champs, and can also receive autographs and take pictures on the field with the players.

The evening will also feature a Chris Sabo sports goggles giveaway to fans who pre-purchase a special package online at FlorenceFreedom.com.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., and right-hander Jordan Kraus (1-0) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Freedom.

To plan a special visit to the games, the City of Union will host a City of Union night at the Florence Freedom, on Thursday, July 27.

The Freedom will play the Windy City Thunderbolts with a first pitch time of 7:05 p.m. at Florence Freedom Ballpark.

The City will have a limited number of tickets available to the game for $30 per ticket.  The tickets provide special patio-level seating and include a full VIP buffet for all Union ticket holders with chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers, sides and cupcakes, along with soft drinks.

The night is also a Thirsty Thursday promotion night at the Freedom, with select beers available at the ballpark for an additional $1 per serving.  The buffet meal will open at 6:30 and remain open until 8 p.m.

For young fans, the tickets also include access to the Freedom Kid’s Zone, with a variety of kid friendly activities for entertainment throughout the game.

The seats are in the Freedom Eagle’s Nest area, and are under a covered awning.  The seating allows fans to both watch the game and mingle and interact with their neighbors in a party type setting.

Tickets are available for purchase now at the City Building, located at 1843 Mt. Zion Road.  Cash and Check are accepted for purchase, along with credit cards (for an additional fee).  Tickets will also be available for purchase (cash or check only) at the Union Celebrates America event on June 30 at the Union Community Building.
