The City of Fort Mitchell expressed its sincere condolences to the family and friends of former councilman Howard Pauly who passed away on Thursday, May 4.

Pauly served on council from 1980 to 1993 after which he served as mayor filling in a term from April 19, 1993 until December 31, 1993. He was re-elected to serve on council from 1994 through 1998.

He served as the chairman of the insurance committee, safety committee and the beautification committee for several years. He was also on the recycling committee and the public works committee.

“Today we lower our flag to honor a true leader who dedicated his life to this community. He was instrumental in many efforts that will always be remembered as his legacy,” said Mayor Jude Hehman.

Pauly worked with mayor and other members of council to establish the position of CAO, had the street and sewer tax approved and established General Ormsby Park. He spent many years cleaning the overgrown lot at Cornell & Sunnymede, seeded the entire area and cut the grass until the city took over the project.

In 2002, he was inducted into the Fort Mitchell wall of honor for his dedicated service to the community.

“Howard was a very dear and respected friend who served 19 years on the Fort Mitchell City Council during which he served nine months as interim mayor. He was very active in his capacity as an elected official and had a particular passion for the beauty of the City. He played a significant role in making Fort Mitchell the attractive city it is today.” said former Mayor and City Administrator Bill Goetz.
