Northern Kentucky University’s Salmon P. Chase College of Law awarded Juris Doctor degrees to 99 graduates during a commencement ceremony May 5 at BB&T Arena on Northern Kentucky University campus.
Jakki Haussler served as the Commencement speaker, sharing advice and lessons learned with the Class of 2017. Haussler, the founder and CEO of Opus Capital Management, serves on the Board of Advisors of Chase’s Transactional Law Practice Center and on the Board of Trustees of Northern Kentucky University Foundation. Nicholas Hunt addressed the graduates as president of Student Bar Association.
During the ceremony, Chase Dean Jeffery Standen presented Jennifer Zaccheus-Miller the Salmon P. Chase Award.
“Jennifer has been a tireless ambassador for Chase, always volunteering and helping us tell Chase’s great story to our next generation of students,” said Dean Standen. “She has overcome difficult circumstances in childhood, one with which many in this room are familiar. She was told she would not likely graduate from high school, and today she graduates from law school.”
Dean Standen praised the Class of 2017 for being dedicated to the well-being of their community and also intensely dedicated to their studies.
Chase College of Law recently announced it had the best passage rate among Kentucky law schools on the Winter 2017 bar examination. Chase also lead the Commonwealth on the 2016 bar examination.
Chase College of Law offers full-time and part-time programs of study, and has an enrollment of about 400 students on the NKU campus in Highland Heights.
In addition to traditional classes, students can participate in the college’s W. Bruce Lunsford Academy for Law, Business + Technology, designed to prepare them for multi-discipline approaches to practicing law, and can gain practical experience in clinical programs in which they work with actual clients. Classes in the part-time evening division meet two evenings a week and some half-day Saturdays to allow students to balance careers and studies or to commute from outside Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati.
