New Day Equine Achievement Programs held its official Grand Opening at Meadowview Farms to showcase its services.
With nearly 125 people coming through the doors New Day was able to share the remodeled house at Meadowview Farm and expanded services of New Day NKY! The festivities included a special horse parade with the students!
New Day has been providing equine facilitated psychotherapy for all individuals and all abilities, such as, at-risk-youth intervention, grief counseling, anxiety and more for several years. Striving to improve and expand the programs offered to the community New Day recognized the need for a larger facility.
At Meadowview Farm, New Day will now be able to provide leadership retreats, breast cancer weekends, grief camps and more.
The organization promotes physical, mental and social health to individuals of all ages and abilities through accredited equine assisted activities and therapies. It has createe a therapeutic environment that individuals actually want to be in and where people are eager to volunteer. It has developed synergistic relationships with referring agencies, practitioners and the community at large, currently including St. Elizabeth Healthcare, North Key, private practitioners such as Dr. Jean Deters, clinical psychologist and the Children’s Home of Northern Kentucky.
History tells that horses have been utilized as a therapeutic aid since the early 17th century. Studies have indicated that equine therapy has been successful in helping patients show marked improvements in things such as:
• Assertiveness & emotional awareness
• Empathy
• Stress tolerance& self-regard
• Flexibility
• Impulse control & social responsibility
• Problem-solving skills
• Independence & Interpersonal relationships
Many of the benefits of equine therapy are simply due to the nature of the animals; horses are non-judgmental, have no preconceived expectations or motivations, and are highly effective at mirroring attitudes and behaviors of the people with whom they are working.
Sponsors of the opening event included: Applebee’s Florence, Mercedes Benz of Ft. Mitchell, SPC Video Productions, Swan Floral, Petal Pushers, Deters & Daughters, Richard Deters, Nicole G Photography, Dr. Jean Deters, Rebecca Trout – Huff Realty, Best Way Disposal, LandStar
