U.S. Department of Transportation report shows CVG improves on its rankings; airfares are lower


The U.S. Department of Transportation released its average airfare ranking report for first quarter 2017.

Below is a summary as it relates to the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG):
 
CVG average fare ranked #35 compared to #16 in 1Q 2016, an improvement of 19 positions

CVG average fare of $386 decreased 13% compared to $441 in 1Q 2016. National average fares decreased only 5%. CVG’s percentage decrease was nearly three times better than national average.

Fares decreased 28% compared to 1Q 2014
 
Low-cost carrier capacity at CVG was 22% in 1Q 2017 compared to 14% in 1Q 2016

Regional comparisons:

◦ Louisville (SDF) ranked #14 – average fare $423

◦ Lexington (LEX) ranked #16 – average fare $418

◦ Dayton (DAY) ranked #26 – average fare $397

◦ CVG ranked #35 – average fare $386

◦ Columbus (CMH) ranked #36 – average fare $385
 
In 2017, CVG has launched seven new routes (San Diego, San Francisco, New York City, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Denver, Chicago, Baltimore/Washington), and announced an additional nine routes (Providence/Boston, Miami, Seattle, Los Angeles, Austin, San Antonio, Jacksonville, Raleigh/Durham x2) that will start later this year and in spring 2018.
