Northern Kentucky University kicks off its Six@Six community lecture series on Wednesday. The eighth season covers a wide range of topics: from exploring the politics behind food choices to examining the role of women in the Civil War.
Presented by NKU’s Scripps Howard Center for Civic Engagement since 2010, Six@Six provides a series of interactive lectures that connect community members with experts to discuss topics of national and local interest.
The series runs October-April.
“This dynamic series is designed to showcase the expertise and knowledge of our talented students and faculty,” said Mark Neikirk, director of NKU’s Scripps Howard Center for Civic Engagement.
“The amount and variety of creative activity and research at NKU is really amazing — and it’s happening in every subject, every discipline. History. Computer science. Theater. Law. Business. English. You name it.”
The season begins on October 4 with NKU Assistant Professor of Communication Austin Lee’s lecture on robotics. Lee will focus on how robots are becoming more commonplace and determines if they can be used to encourage a positive change in our society. The event will be held at The Mercantile Library.

· The American Dream in a Turbulent Era on November 14, 2017.
· Unwrapping the Peanut Butter Cup on January 24, 2018.
· Art as Rx on February 22, 2018.
· The Civil War Experience of Kentucky Women on March 15, 2018.
· Threading the Oceans on April 23, 2018.
The interactive community lectures are sponsored by NKU’s Scripps Howard Center for Civic Engagement. The cost is $6 per lecture, or $30 for the entire season. Students are admitted free.
