The Department for Local Government (DLG) is currently accepting 2018 grant applications for the Recreational Trails Program (RTP), a federal assistance program funded by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
“Each year cities and counties have the opportunity to apply for this important federal assistance program that provides ongoing maintenance, restoration and development of trail systems and trail related facilities,” said DLG Commissioner Sandra Dunahoo.
“At DLG we’re doing our part to ensure that the investment in these projects will create further opportunities to enhance the quality of life for all Kentuckians.”
The grant application deadline is April 30. The application template can be downloaded from the DLG website.
The Recreational Trails Program is funded by the FHWA and provides assistance for acquisition of trail easements, development and maintenance of recreational trails, trailhead and trailside facilities for both motorized and non-motorized use.
Eligible applicants are city and county governments, state and federal agencies.
All trails that have received FHWA funding must remain open to the public and maintained in perpetuity.
