January is National Weight Loss Awareness Month, and one Walmart associate’s loss is his family’s gain.
In 2016, Florence Walmart Co-Manager Jason Fisher learned at a doctor’s appointment that being 315 pounds was causing other problems.

He had developed type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure.
He and his wife had a new daughter, and Jason knew it was time to turn his health around.
“My doctor lined me up with a life coach a few days after our appointment. She laid out scenarios for me if I didn’t change my lifestyle. I knew it was time to get rolling,” he said.
Jason immediately started tracking calories.
Four months later he started jogging.
“Starting off, I’d run just as much as I could for 30 minutes. I’d run just shy of half of a mile. 13 months and 150 pounds later, I ran my first half marathon!”
He has since run two more and is training for his first marathon.
He has also been named one of the winners of Walmart’s ZP challenge, which helps guide participants to make better choices.
More importantly, he’s spending more quality time with his family, and they’ve gotten in the act as well.
Jason’s wife has lost 50 pounds, and his Mom 15.
