Campbell County Public Library February calendar includes wide range of events and activities


A list of events and programs at the Campbell County Public Library branches is provided here.

The Campbell County Public Library operates four branches. The Cold Spring Branch is located at 3920 Alexandria Pike in Cold Spring, phone 859-781-6166. The Carrico/Fort Thomas Branch is located at 1000 Highland Ave. in Fort Thomas, phone 859-572-5033. The Newport Branch is located at 901 E. Sixth St. in Newport, phone 859-572-5035.
Hours for all three branches are 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday; and 1-5 p.m. Sunday.

The Alexandria Branch, at 8333 Alexandria Pike, opened its doors with a ribbon cutting, sneak preview and VIP party on Monday, Jan. 15. It is open 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday-Friday; 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday; and closed Sunday and Monday.

If you don’t know how to make a character, never fear, we will have pre-generated characters for you to use. If you would like to make your own character, we will be making characters and leveling up from 6 to about 7 pm. Dungeons & Dragons Model Printing
5-7 pm Friday, Feb. 9
Bring your favorite D& D character to life. Attend this special event to design your own 3-D printed mini figure. We will be using the free online software Tinkercad to design the mini models, with easily imported pre-made designs from Thingiverse. Designs completed at home can be brought on a USB flashdrive. One mini-figure per person. Designed can be picked up March 2. Ages 13 & up. Registration required.

Minecraft Club
5-7 pm Monday, Feb. 12

City Barbeque Food for Thought Series: Shaker Neighborhoods at Pleasant Hill and White Water
6:30 pm Tuesday, Feb. 278
Dr. Carol Medlicott of the NKU History and Geography department returns to talk about the Shakers. Due to geographical happenstance, the Shaker settlements in Kentucky were far closer to events of the Civil War than any pacifist Christian community would have wished to be. In this presentation, Dr. Carol Medlicott, a scholar of the Shakers, will discuss how the Civil War confronted the “western” Shakers of Kentucky and Ohio with profound challenges and hardships that their Shaker counterparts in New England never experienced. Food will be provided by Highland Heights City Barbeque. Ages 16 & up. Registration required.

Charley Harper Crafts

Join us as we learn about Charley Harper. We will learn a bit about the local artist and recreate animals inspired by his art. Using simple shapes like circles and triangles, we will create a few animals based on his works. Also, we can use this time to experiment with different shapes and see what other animals you can create on your own. Ages 6-12. Registration required.

Adventure Club Cooks: Red Velvet Truffles

Sensory Science Story Time
11:30 am Saturday, Feb. 17
Enjoy this monthly Sensory Science Story Time! Children, ages 4 to 7 are invited (and all ages welcome) to use all of their senses to explore stories, songs and hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) activities. Our ‘Sensory Science’ programs begin with a short story time that integrates movement and song, and end with hands-on STEAM exploration. This program is designed for children with sensory integration challenges but is open to children of all abilities. Registration is encouraged.

Adventure Club Challenge: How Strong is Spaghetti?
4 pm Tuesday, Feb. 20
Join us in a challenge using nothing but styrofoam and spaghetti. We will be sticking uncooked spaghetti noodles into styrofoam and testing how strong it is. Do you think you can make spaghetti hold up your favorite picture book? What about a dictionary? Come experiment and enjoy the fun. Ages 6-12. Registration required.

Family Fun Night: Disney Pixar’s Coco
6-8 pm Thursday, Feb. 22
We will break out some board games, books and movies. We have lots of games available, but feel free to bring your own game to share. We will have a craft area, a play area, and a movie area where we will be screening Coco. Movie starts at 6pm sharp. Families. No need to register.

3 pm Saturday, Feb. 24
We will be doing Lego mini-games! There will be a stack of mini-challenges to do in this program. See how many of these mini-challenges you can complete. Ages 6-12. No need to register.

Adventure Club Challenge: Marble Maze
4 pm Tuesday, Feb. 27
Build a marble maze and see if you can solve it! Using paper plates, pipe cleaners, and contruction paper, we will make complex mazes for you to maneuver a marble through. See how tricky you can make it or start simple and build it up to make it more and more difficult! You can even finish yours and see if the other kids can make it through your maze. Come have fun with this creative game program. Ages 6-12. Registration required.

CCPL Board of Trustees Meeting
5:30 pm Wednesday, Feb 21
The Board meets at 5:30 pm on the third Wednesday of the month on a rotating basis among the branches of the Library. No need to register.

In the 2012-2013 fiscal year, 681,701 people visited the Campbell County Public Library, checking out more than 1 million items. In addition, 40,713 people attended 2,008 programs offered by the Library, and more than 2,359 public meetings took place the library’s meeting rooms.
