Kyle Pollock’s run-scoring double in the bottom of the eighth inning snapped a 4-all tie and lifted the Washington Wild Things to a 5-4 win over the visiting Florence Freedom on Sunday.

Florence owned a 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the seventh, but Washington scored twice to slice the Freedom advantage to 4-2. An inning later, the Wild Things combined a walk, single and a two-run double by Roman Collins to tie the game at 4-all.

Pollock then stepped to the plate and delivered an RBI double that drove in Collins with the go-ahead score.

Sam Mersing came out of the bullpen in the ninth and immediately found trouble by hitting Brandon Pugh with a pitch. Mersing, however, struck out Connor Crane for the first out. With Jose Brizuela batting, Pugh attempted to steal second. But Pollock’s perfect throw from behind the plate gunned down Pugh for the second out.

Brizuela ended the game by grounding out to second, sending the Freedom to its fourth consecutive loss.

Austin Wobrock was 3-for-4 to lead the Freedom offense, which generated six hits. Pollock and Collins each went 2-for-4 with two RBI for Washington, which completed a three-game sweep of Florence with Sunday’s win.

Florence (8-7 overall record) plays a doubleheader at Evansville on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.
