The Florence Freedom erupted for six runs during the third inning and coasted to a 9-1 win over the Normal CornBelters on Friday night at The Corn Crib.
Skyler Ewing ignited the third-inning offensive fireworks with a two-run homer. Austin Wobrock added a two-run double during the third-inning outburst as the Freedom — who scored twice in the second — built an 8-0 lead.
Wobrock finished 2-for-5 with four RBI, while Ewing was 3-for-4 at the plate.
Florence starting pitcher Steve Hagen picked up the complete-game victory. Hagen scattered five hits and allowed no walks in nine innings. Normal’s only run came in the ninth inning and was unearned.
The two teams continue the three-game weekend series Saturday with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
