The Kenton County Planning Commission’s Implementation Committee will host a public open house regarding the Direction 2030 comprehensive plan’s Land Use element. This meeting will be held on June 11, 2018 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the PDS Commission Chambers located at 2332 Royal Drive, Fort Mitchell.
The open house style meeting is designed to give attendees an opportunity to review draft changes, ask questions, and provide comments on the Recommended Land Use element for the Cities of Bromley, Edgewood, Elsmere, Erlanger, Fairview, Fort Mitchell, Independence, Kenton Vale, Ludlow, and Ryland Heights.
The meeting is open to anyone who is interested in helping guide the future of these Kenton County communities.
The Kenton County Planning Commission (KCPC) has begun this review as part of ongoing updates to the comprehensive plan. An analysis of the Land Use element of the plan is underway currently as staff meets with each city in Kenton County to discuss its vision for the future. The land use element of the plan defines the future vision for growth and development. As such, it is one of the key factors in the decision-making process for zone changes and development plans.
The public open house is part of the larger project to review future land use recommendations for the entirety of Kenton County.
“The state requires us to review our plans from time to time,” said Jeff Bethell, Chairperson of the Implementation Committee for KCPC. “We decided that in this first review of the plan, it would be good to work with all of our cities to do a closer review of land use. The project helps us get their leaders’ thoughts on direction for the future of their communities.”
The overall Land Use review is anticipated to take approximately a year and a half and be split into two groups of cities. The meeting on June 11th is the first opportunity for public input, but it will not be the last. “We are on track to have our official public hearing later this summer,” explained Bethell. “Once we work through the comments from this open house, we should have a better idea of when the actual date of the final hearing will be set.”
