Skyler Ewing and Ricky Ramirez each homered Tuesday night as the Florence Freedom posted a 6-2 win over the visiting Washington Wild Things at UC Health Stadium.
Ewing was 2-for-3 with three runs batted in to pace Florence, which built a 4-0 lead after five innings and held on for the victory. Caleb Lopes was 2-for-4 and added an RBI, while Keivan Berges had two hits.
Chuck Weaver went six innings and struck out five batters to collect the win.
Florence and Washington continue the three-game series Wednesday at 6:35 p.m.
FREEDOM NOTES: The Freedom will send four players to the Frontier League Mid-Summer classic.
The All-Star roster will include Freedom pitcher Steve Hagan and rookies Keivan Berges, Jacob Wark and Johnathon Tripp. The Frontier League Mid-Summer classic will be played at CarShield Field on July 11 in O’Fallon, Missouri.
Hagan holds the second-most wins by a starting pitcher in the first half of the season with six. With nine starts, Hagan owns the fifth-best ERA in the league at 2.44. He also has a 3-to-1 strikeout to walk ratio.
Berges will be the lone starter for the Freedom. He is batting .301. with five homers and nine doubles. Wark owns a .280 batting average with 22 RBI and three homers.
Tripp has pitched 17 innings and notched 23 strikeouts. He sports a 1.05 ERA and has held opponents to a .170 batting average.
