Joe Duncan and Kyle Davis each drove in two runs Sunday night as the Southern Illinois Miners posted a 5-1 win over the visiting Florence Freedom at Rent One Park.
Southern Illinois starter Steven Ridings scattered six hits in 5 2/3 innings to pick up the victory. The Miner bullpen pitched 3 1/3 innings of hitless baseball to preserve the win and take the rubber game of the weekend series.
On Saturday night, Skyler Ewing’s solo home run in the top of the seventh inning snapped a 1-all tie and lifted Florence to a 2-1 victory. It was Ewing’s ninth homer of the season.
Southern Illinois owned a 1-0 lead going into the sixth inning, but Jimmy Heck’s sacrifice fly tied the score at 1-all. After Ewing’s homer gave the Freedom a 2-1 advantage, Florence reliever Jake Haberer tossed a perfect seventh inning to notch the save.
Florence plays at the Schaumburg Boomers at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
