Interstate projects are expected to have a major impact on traffic on both sides of the Ohio River over the weekend.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 6 Office provided the following information on a pavement repair project on southbound I-71/I-75 from just before the KY 371 (Buttermilk Pike) Exit 186 to KY 1017 (Turfway Road) Exit 182 currently in progress.
I-71/I-75 SB and NB (186.9 – 182.9 mile-marker) –On Friday, August 24, starting at 10 p.m., the entrance ramp from KY 236 (Donaldson Road) to I-71/I-75 Northbound and to I-275 Eastbound and Westbound will be closed until 5 a.m. Monday, August 27.
There will be no restrictions during weekday daylight hours.
The speed limit will be reduced to 55 MPH in the work zone. Double fines will be issued in the work zone. Motorists should watch for lane closures, lane switches, crews and equipment. A section on the I-71/I-75 NB from Turfway Road to the I-275 interchange is also in progress. Be work zone alert.
North Interstate 71/Lytle Tunnel closures scheduled
The Ohio Department of Transportation has released the following information regarding maintenance and inspection work that will require the following north Interstate 71/Lytle Tunnel full closures this weekend:
Close northbound I-71 at the Lytle Tunnel nightly from 10 p.m. until 8 a.m. the following day, Friday, Aug. 24 and Saturday, Aug. 25. All traffic will be detoured using north I-75, east SR 562 and I-71.
Also, double lane closures on east Fort Washington Way (I-71/U.S. 50) during this time; U.S. 50 will remain open.
Arrow boards and/or signs will be in place to alert motorists of the upcoming work zone and restrictions. All work is contingent upon the weather.
To help ensure the safety of the construction workers as well as the traveling public, motorists should remain alert, reduce their speed and watch for stopped traffic while passing through the work zone.
