A ninth-inning rally by the Florence Freedom fell short Friday night during a 5-4 loss to the Lake Erie Crushers at UC Health Stadium.

Lake Erie owned a 5-2 lead going into the bottom of the ninth, but Florence’s Austin Wobrock stroked a two-run double with two outs to cut the deficit to 5-4. After Wobrock advanced to third base on a passed ball, Lake Erie reliever Logan Lombana struck out Jimmy Heck to end the game.

Aaron Hill hit a two-run homer to spark the Lake Erie offense, while teammate Douglas Trimble went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in.

Xavier Turner homered and was 2-for-4 for Florence. Ricky Ramirez Jr. also went 2-for-4 and added an RBI for the Freedom.

Florence starter Chuck Weaver pitched 6 1/3 innings and allowed all five runs.
