Tapp earns Mid-South Conference weekly honor for Georgetown; NKU duo recognized by Horizon League

Georgetown College volleyball star Jessica Tapp, a graduate of Scott High School, has been named the Mid-South Conference Attacker of the Week after leading the Tigers to a 4-0 start.

Tapp recorded 59 kills and attacked at a .379 clip as Georgetown posted a 4-0 record at the MSC Crossover Challenge last week. She also added 33 digs, one solo block, and five block assists.

The 5-foot-10 junior outside hitter posted two double-doubles, tallying 13 kills and 10 digs against Xavier (La.), and later adding 14 kills and 11 digs against Reinhardt (Ga.). Tapp also served up four aces during the MSC Crossover Challenge.

This marks the first weekly Mid-South Conference honor in Tapp’s career at Georgetown. A year ago, Tapp was selected to the All-Mid-South Conference second team after recording 211 kills.

The Tigers are currently ranked No. 17 nationally in the NAIA poll.

Tapp finished her career at Scott as the Lady Eagles’ all-time leader in kills (1,348) and digs (850). The Taylor Mill native also hammered down a Scott single-season record 466 kills, and she led Scott to 10th Region championships in both 2014 and ’15.

A four-year starter at Scott, Tapp was also named 10th Region Player of the Year in 2014 and ’15, and she twice earned first team all-state honors.

NKU’S TERRILL HONORED: Northern Kentucky University’s Ashton Terrill posted back-to-back 30-dig performances at the Golden Dome Invitational to earn Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Terrill averaged a whopping 6.92 digs per set at the Golden Dome Invitational as she anchored a Norse defense that posted 24.67 digs per frame. Terrill recorded a career-high 32 digs against Toledo, then added 31 digs in three sets against host Notre Dame.

NKU (2-1) will participate in the Northern Illinois Invitational this weekend, with the Norse taking on Virginia at 4 p.m. Friday. NKU will also meet Nevada and host Northern Illinois on Saturday.

LOHMANN EARNS AWARD: NKU goalie Emily Lohmann was named the Horizon League’s Defensive Player of the Week after collecting a shutout during a 1-0 win over Xavier and recording six saves in a 1-0 overtime loss at Cincinnati.

Lohmann faced 12 shots against Xavier and made five saves in the contest. In the 1-0 overtime loss to Cincinnati on Sunday evening, she faced 18 shots and made six saves. Lohmann has two shutouts this season with a 0.73 goals against average and a 0.850 save percentage.
