Amanda Bess, originally from Crestwood and now residing in St. Louis, Missouri, planned and organized a 6-month hiking trip covering the entire Appalachian Trail – 2,200 miles from Georgia to Maine. She hiked with friends for a portion of the journey, however, most of the trip she completed solo.
Friends suggested that Bess create a GOFUNDME site to raise awareness and support for a charitable organization.

Bess’ sister, Summer Bess, helped her research organizations and together they selected the Kentucky Association of Children’s Advocacy Centers (KACAC). The KACAC is a statewide membership association of the Children’s Advocacy Centers in Kentucky.
Much of Bess’ adventure on the Appalachian Trail was documented and posted on her YouTube site. Her journey was viewed by over 8,000 followers and she raised over $14,000 to support charitable organizations. 50% of the money raised will go to the Kentucky Association of Children’s Advocacy Centers.
The outpouring of contributions from the individuals following her journey on the Appalachian Trail will help to ensure that children in Kentucky have access to the services of a Children’s Advocacy Centers.
By traveling across the Commonwealth of Kentucky during the week of September 24-28 and visiting all 15 children advocacy centers, Bess hopes to raise awareness around the issue of child abuse, as well as provide her YouTube followers, and the community with a look inside Kentucky’s Children Advocacy Centers.
Bess will be at the Northern Kentucky Children’s Advocacy Center on Thursday, Sept. 27, at 2:30 p.m.
