Three players who opened the season with impressive performances finished on top in the Northern Kentucky high school football regular season statistics compiled by the NKyTribune.
Covington Catholic senior running back Casey McGinness leads the area in rushing with 1,629 yards and scoring with 27 touchdowns for 162 points. In the Colonels’ first game last August, he picked up 118 yards on 13 carries and scored four TDs.

The area’s leading passer is CovCath sophomore Caleb Jacob with 2006 yards and 19 touchdowns. He also got off to a good start, throwing for 294 yards and two TDs in his debut as the team’s starting quarterback.
Campbell County senior Reid Jolly opened the season with six catches for 203 yards and three touchdowns to take the early lead in pass receiving and stayed on top. He finished the regular season with 845 yards in receptions.
CovCath, the defending Class 5A state champion, enters the playoffs this week with a 10-0 record. If the team makes another successful post-season run like last year, there’s a good chance that McGinness will be nominated for Mr. Kentucky Football.
The explosive 5-foot-10, 183-pound tailback has already broken team records in career rushing and scoring this season. If the Colonels keep winning, he could also surpass the team’s current single-season records for rushing yards (1,990), touchdowns (33) and total points (200).
Beechwood will be going for a third straight Class 1A state title with first-year quarterback Cameron Hergott and veteran running back Logan Castleman leading the offense.
Hergott passed for 1,362 yards and 18 touchdowns during the regular season. Castleman rushed for 953 yards and 16 touchdowns, caught two TD passes and scored twice on interception returns for 122 total points.
