For a number of reasons, Saturday’s home finale for the Thomas More University football team is very significant.

First, it’s Senior Day and Thomas More will honor its 11 seniors prior to the noon kickoff at BB&T Field. The festivities will begin at 11:35 a.m.

In addition, the Saints are playing host to an NCAA Division II program, Lake Erie College.

Thomas More — a Division III independent — enters Saturday with a 6-2 record, while Lake Erie is 0-9. This will mark the first-ever meeting on the gridiron between the two programs.

Senior running backs Hjavier Pitts and Luke Zajac will be playing for the final time at BB&T Field. Pitts has carried the ball 172 times for 1,209 yards and 10 touchdowns this season. He has also caught 22 passes for 201 yards and three touchdowns. Zajac has 132 carries for 638 yards and six touchdowns.

Senior wide receiver Logan Winkler has 22 receptions for 375 yards and three touchdowns, while junior wide receiver Da’marco Canty has added 18 catches for 375 yards and five touchdowns.

The Saints are averaging 35.4 points per game. Thomas More gains 477 yards per contest, with 265.6 yards on the ground and 211.4 yards passing. Junior quarterback Justin Post is 123-of-209 in passing for 1,691 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also has 50 rushes for 176 yards and three touchdowns.

Thomas More’s defense is holding opponents to 23.6 points per game. Senior defensive back Steven Everson has 36 tackles (25 solo/11 assisted), including two tackles for a loss and a team-leading six interceptions.

Lake Erie is allowing 46.6 points per game and 429.7 yards of total offense each contest. The Storm is coming off a 40-28 loss to Tiffin last Saturday.

Thomas More is 49-6 all-time at BB&T Field, which opened in 2008 as The Bank of Kentucky Field. The Saints’ six home losses are by a combined margin of 16 points.

Thomas More closes out the season Nov. 10 when it travels to Collegeville, Minnesota, to play nationally ranked St. John’s University. That kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
