Get 2019 started off with ice skating, a special breakfast and a hike — all planned at General Butler State Resort Park to welcome in the new year!
The park in Carrollton and the Friends of Butler are hosting an “iceless” synthetic ice rink at the tennis courts Dec. 31-Jan. 1. Guests can rent skates and enjoy 90-minute skating sessions starting at 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 31 and 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 1. The cost is $10 per skater. Tickets will be sold at the front desk at the lodge. (The rink can hold up to 15 skaters per session.)
You can celebrate a New Year on Jan. 1 with a PJs Breakfast Buffet Party at the park’s Two River Restaurant from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wear your PJs and slippers and get a buffet breakfast deal for $8 for adults, $5 for children ages 6-12 and free for children ages 5 and under. (Please wear appropriate pajamas for the restaurant.) Your drink is included.
A First Day guided hike is scheduled for Jan. 1 at 1 p.m. It will start at the lodge mezzanine and will feature scenic overlooks of the Kentucky and Ohio rivers. You will cover about 3 miles. Participants should wear appropriate clothing for the weather. Anyone under age 16 should have adult supervision. Bring water and a camera.
General Butler State Resort Park is also hosting a dinner theater for New Year’s Eve on Dec. 31. A comedy, “The Naked Man on the Couch,” will be featured. The evening includes a dinner, band and dance along with a balloon drop at midnight.
