SATURDAY, JANUARY 26:
Race 1
BREWS TOONIE TOSS has a solid record on the Poly at Woodbine and was a close-up third in his only try over this track. She looks like a good bet to win this one. HOLY COOKIE didn’t fire last out but a return to her best makes her the main competition. WILLIE U is a bit suspect at the distance but figures to make the lead with McKee up.
Race 2
MAN OF BLUES faded after pressing the pace against better last out. He drops back in for a tag tonight and gets the nod in what looks like a well matched field. IAN SMITH comes off two solid efforts and is the one to beat. MANSOOR moves up in class after a nice win.
Race 3
BIG IRON looked very sharp winning last out. He faces tougher in this one but is capable of the repeat score for Ewing and Franklin. BALIZAR didn’t show much in his first race back after a long layoff but should move forward off that effort and could run well at nice odds. CALANDAVE is a contender.
Race 4
EN HANSE is a stakes-winning son of two-year-old champ Hansen. He had a solid three-year-old campaign but hasn’t shown much since coming back after a year on the sidelines. He has been training sharply for Mike Maker and should like the move back to the Turfway surface tonight. HALLIE’S HERO is a lightly raced four year old from the barn of Ben Colebrook. He ran well to finish second last out and figures to improve off that effort. MOUNT CALVARY has been in the money in seven of his eight races over this track and is a solid contender in a tough race.
Race 5
JACKSON CHROME can rally from off the pace in a race loaded with early speed. He looks like a good bet to win this one with Prescott back aboard for Kim Hammond. HUGH B. just missed in a race here last Friday and beat the top pick two starts back. He is the one to catch. CEEJAY’S MISTER drops in against bottom claimers and could wake up at this level.
Race 6
STRAITOUTTAPOPCORN was very impressive drawing off to win her Turfway debut for Stephen Lyster. A repeat of that one would be good enough to win this one with Johnny McKee back aboard. HEAVENLY HILL just missed in her first race back after being claimed by Maker. She has the speed to be in contention throughout and looks like the main competition. DIAL ME has to be respected.
Race 7
VIDA LEVA EU has been a consistent performer, running well on all surfaces. She comes off a sharp win in her first try on the Poly and can make it two in a row for Caramori and Machado. SOUR PEACH runs her best over the Turfway strip and is the one to beat. YES I’M EVIL could add value to the exotics.
Race 8
STRIKE PLAY and LINK TO DESTINY are both trained by Wes Ward but run uncoupled in the betting. Their works here at Turfway are very similar but give the edge to STRIKE PLAY, who has had three races and figures to be on or near the lead in this one. LINK TO DESTINY is a first timer and Ward has excellent numbers with his debuting runners. Both can be expected to run well tonight. SUPER CLEAR is a definite threat.
