25-year-old Florence woman charged with felony theft for faking cancer to get money from co-workers

A 25-year-old Kentucky woman was arrested on Feb. 14 on felony theft charges after she faked having cancer for money, according to Kenton Commonwealth’s Attorney Rob Sanders.

Police arrested Jessica Marie Krecskay of Florence at an Erlanger urgent care where she worked.

A grand jury indicted her on Feb. 7 on a charge of theft by deception, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison. She is accused of taking more than $10,000 over four years between 2013 and 2017.

Co-workers suspicions led to an investigation.

Most of the $10,000 came from private benefits and donations from co-workers and employers, Sanders said. However, she never updated co-workers about how the donations assisted her.

A fake cancer case from 2017 of a 20-year-old former Northern Kentucky University student, who was accused of faking cancer to collect money, prompted the co-workers to suspect foul play.

Krecskay is out of jail on a $2,500 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned March 4 in Kenton Circuit Court.
